This site has been created to help peoples who desired to know where there are and how old are the orthodox monasteries from Romania. Even for pilgrimage, religious tourism, historical research or tourism for pleasure, you need to know information about these monastic establishments.
     In this part of the world, where Saint Apostle Andrew founded the first church, there are many monasteries, having churches made by wood or by stones 5, 6 or 7 century ago. Into this monasteries have been made schools for arts and sciences and known painters have painted most of their churches. Most of this monasteries where founded by voivodes, rulers or high officials of the princely courts of the medieval provinces of Romania. Some of these monasteries have been nominated as UNESCO historical monuments, being part of the world cultural patrimony.
