HORAITA  Monastery

Cracauani commune, Neamt county. Convent for monks.
Dedication day: “The Lord’s Baptism”, 6 January.

The holy establishment was founded by monastics. In 1824, Reverend Archimandrite Irinarh Roset had a small wooden church building constructed on the premises. Forty-three years later (in 1867), Reverend Archimandrite Ermoghen Buhus had a much bigger church building constructed of stone on the location of the former one. The church was provided with eight towers, which conferred a remarkably impressive feature to the holy establishment. At a distance of one kilometer from it, the same founder raised another church building which was smaller and which has been known as the Horaicioara Skete, its patronal feast is “Annunciation”.

In our days, many improvemrnts have been made to the monastic complex: the church building and two groups of monastic cells have undergone extensive repairs and restoration works, whereas a wooden road surrounding the monastery grounds has been made available for access.
The main church building has been painted, because although it had been built in 1867, it had not been painted at all. The church was reconsecrated in the year 1993.

Horaicioara Skete was founded by the devout faithful Constantin Bostan of the city of Iasi (to whom Constantin Racovita Voivode had given the Four-Gospels as a gift in the year 1763). In 1863, Reverend Archimandrite Ermoghen Buhus had the holy establishment refounded. He was the one who had the stone church building constructed, too.
The former monastic life of the holy establishment was revived in the year 1991.
