Placed at 37 km from Vaslui, 10 km from the European road Bucharest - Albita, on the county road to Costesti Commune, this monastic settlement rests for hundreds of years under a hill, in a lonely, but charming place. It is a sight for sore eyes and brings joy and peace in the hearts of those who come here.
The monastic Complex built in an unitary architectural style including traditional elements contains: the church and the old belfry (19th century), the chapel, the belfry tower, the nuns' cells, the refectory, the scriptoria center, the religious art museum, the library, the annex buildings and the interior wall. At the entrance a monumental gate welcomes the visitors. The oak- sculptured gate, the creation of sculptor Ionel Bulgaru, is made in 1996 in the folk art style. It is decorated with ten religious scenes, curved in bold relief and flanked by two columns. A shingle roof and a Latin cross cover the columns.
The exact year when this worship institution has been built is not known. Its existence is mentioned for the first time in a document in April 30 1546, which says it was build around 1540 by Lupan Buznea and his wife, on their estate, as a family monastery, by the time Petru Rares was ruling Moldavia. It disappeared at the end of this century in unknown circumstances.
In 1853, another wood church was built; thus Lupan's monastery becomes Moreni monastery which continues the spiritual values on the valley of Ghilahoi brook.
At February 23 1883, the last monk, Nicon Sirbu dies, the small connvent being abolished.

In 1935 Husi Bishop P.S Nifon Criveanu ordered re-establishing of the monastery. The place's restful and healthy position, the loneliness and the quiet of the surroundings, all favorable to pray and meditate have attracted the priests of the diocese for the first confession withdrawls, but with a quite limited community of monks.
The monastery was suppressed again in 1958.
The last intervention was in 1986, when the church was repaired and painted by the priest Marilee Ion, helped by the local believers, as it is mentioned on the frontispiece of the pronaos.
Although quite small, the church impresses through the harmony of the proportions, through the decency of the appearance so peculiar to "a distinguished house" The House of God, but precisely through the picturesqueness of the place where it was built.
At November 1st 1990, Moreni Monastery was re-established, with the blessing of Roman and Husi Bishop, His Holiness Eftimie. Monk Meletie Mercas was sent there as abbot. He was born at November 4, 1961, in Arsura village, Vaslui County. He insisted that the monastery turn into a convent (1991).
The chapel was built between 1992 and 1996, from stone and brick. The place is rectangular, with three domes, south entrance, articulated shingle roof, harmoniously included in the folk architecture of the porched nuns' cells.
At the iconostasis's left stands the icon "Holy Vorgin with the baby" (brought from the old church).
It was silver plated in 1999, at Tg. Neamt. The icon works wonders. It brings together believers from all over the world.
The holy place also shelters the relics of the saint martyrs Tarahie, Prov and Andronic, brought by the confessor Meletie Mercas from Jerusalem in 1996.
